Android Apps / How to Dual Boot Android 4.4.2 and Ubuntu for Phones
« on: October 04, 2014, 08:47:29 AM »
Dual Boot Android 4.4.2 and Ubuntu for Phones
[INFO!] This only works on Nexus 7 (2012 & 2013), Nexus 4, Nexus 5, OnePlus One, Sony Xperia Z (yuga), Motorola Moto G and HTC One M7 and M8.

Install ADB (Android Debug Bridge)
Run these commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-device-flash

Download TWRP 2.7.0.0 and SuperSU binary.
Copy the SuperSU binary zip to the phone's memory. Run this command to go to the bootloader:
sudo reboot bootloader

Unzip the TWRP files on your computer and install the images with the following command (replace recovery.img with the name of the file you have downloaded):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

You now have root access in Android. Install MultiROM Manager, apply the patches, and download Ubuntu for phones. The application will ask for root access and the installation will go on smoothly. When you reboot you will be prompted with a small screen that allows you to choose what system you want to run. Choose Ubuntu and you are good to go.

What is NetHogs?
NetHogs is a small 'net top' tool. Instead of breaking the traffic down per protocol or per subnet, like most tools do, it groups bandwidth by process. NetHogs does not rely on a special kernel module to be loaded. If there's suddenly a lot of network traffic, you can fire up NetHogs and immediately see which PID is causing this. This makes it easy to indentify programs that have gone wild and are suddenly taking up your bandwidth.

Since NetHogs heavily relies on /proc, it currently runs on Linux only.

DOWNLOAD LINK: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nethogs/

Installation
Run the following command:

sudo apt-get install nethogs

Using NetHogs
Root permissions needed and run with sudo:
sudo nethogs

Command line options
sudo nethogs -d 5
sudo nethogs -device eth2
sudo nethogs -device eth0 eth1
